Alternative Teachers Union Voices Concerns

This election season, the California Teachers Association (CTA) will spend millions of their members’ mandatory dues supporting radical liberal candidates and issues. But there is an alternative for teachers: the California Teachers Empowerment Network (CTEN). This non-profit organization offers a balanced perspective on education that is lacking in the current union-dominated school system.

In radio ads airing in the Sacramento area, CTEN president Larry Sand explains that the CTA doesn’t represent the values of so many teachers. As an example, he references the CTA’s support of SB 1322, the bill that would have allowed communists to teach in public schools and their $250,000 donation to No on Proposition 8.

If you are tired to participating in a teachers union that subverts your values, please visit CTEN’s web site and learn how you can support an organization that supports you: http://www.ctenhome.org/

Teachers and Students

In more disturbing news about predatory teacher/student relationships—this time from across the Atlantic —an English teacher’s union leader is defending teachers who have sex with their students. In a television interview, Chris Keates, general secretary of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, said, “Clearly there has to be appropriate disciplinary sanctions in the school where a teacher works to make sure that inappropriate relationships don’t develop, but it does seem a step too far - when there has been a consensual relationship - to put that person on a sex offenders' register when in fact, they could have a perfectly legitimate relationship with an 18-year-old still enrolled at another school.”

“While American parents may breathe a sigh of relief that this union leader isn’t in our country, we should still be concerned that people like her certainly exist in our country,” stated Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute. “We expect our teachers to mentor and educate our children—not steal their innocence. Parents must remain ever vigilant when it comes to who is spending hours in a classroom with their children.”

October is LGBT Month

Did you know that October is LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) month? Homosexual organizations across the country are promoting their lifestyle to students by profiling a homosexual every day in October.

Homosexual heroes profiled include Olympian Greg Louganis, State Senator Sheila Kuehl and artist Michelangelo. The Gay/Straight Alliance Network (GSA), an organization that promotes homosexuality in public schools, is promoting their own “history month guide” to help students push their agenda on their peers. Activities include reading the profile for each homosexual in class or over the school speaker system, making an exhibit to display at school or hold an event celebrating gay history month. Mistrial in San Diego Firefighters Civil Suit

Last year Californians were shocked by news coming from San Diego : four heterosexual firefighters were forced to participate in a gay parade, where they were taunted and harassed by homosexual parade attendees. Embarrassed that they were required by their employer to undergo such a humiliating experience, the firefighters defended their values and sued.

"For me, I believe it was a win because we stood up for what we believe in," firefighter John Ghiotto said. "It was never about any money."  On Monday a judge declared a mistrial in their civil suit. After four days of deliberation and just one vote shy of the nine required, the judged declared a mistrial and set a retrial for January 16.

Important Election Forums in California

With the election just weeks away, voters are starting to educate themselves about the many issues they will decide on November 4. Hosted by conservative Christian activist Craig Huey, each forum will inform voters before they cast their ballot. To learn more about the election forums, visit http://www.electionforum.org/

The following are the upcoming election forums:

Planned Parenthood and Governor Palin Update

Last week Capitol Update reported on an anonymous email circulating the internet that asks recipients to donate to Planned Parenthood in Governor Sarah Palin’s name. For every donation the abortion organization receives, Governor Palin receives a thank you card for her support of their cause. The purpose of the email campaign is to ridicule Governor Palin for her strong pro-life convictions.

In response, CRFI asked for donations to help us fight for the pro-family values throughout Sacramento . For every donation we receive, we will send a note to Governor Palin thanking her for her support of life and pro-family values. We are thrilled to announce that we received over 200 donations and will be sending a thank you note to Governor Palin for each.

If you would like to make a donation and send a note of encouragement to Governor Palin, click here.
